Church

For the Children-Born and Unborn

We are a pro-life family-

We are a pro-life church-

We love children, both born and unborn.

Psalm 139:13

For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

*

We believe that life begins at conception,

and that each life is a special and unique

creation of God Himself.

We are created in His image.

With that belief in our life, we do whatever we can to promote and provide for

children and to protect the unborn.

One of the things that we do as a united church, is attend

the annual March for Life, held every year in January,

on the anniversary of the Roe vs Wade

Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion in the US.

A bus is chartered to Washington, DC, and as many as are willing and able,

fill the bus to capacity to march in protest.

We are protesting this decision, and want it overturned.

Many of the people in our church take the day off work to attend the March.

The Sunday after the March for Life, all of those from our church

that attended the march, (26 total)  sang a special song for the rest of church.

The children are always included!

Children are the future of the church of Christ, and the future of our country.

Another thing that we do to support life,

is to donate to the local Life Choices Center.

Life Choices is dedicated to meeting the physical, emotional and spiritual needs

of young men, women and families that are facing unplanned pregnancies.

One of the ways of support is through the baby bottle drive.

Anyone who is interested, takes a baby bottle home, fills it up with $$, and returns it to church.

The bottles are then taken by a volunteer to the Life Choices Center.

The mission of Life Choices is to empower choices for life, sexual integrity and healthy families.

Free medical services are available, including

pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, STD testing, abortion education, community referrals, prenatal and pregnancy education,

material resources, post abortion support, sexual health, relationship education, and male/fatherhood consultations.

They have a 24 hour help-line,

1-800-395-HELP.

While the baby bottles were waiting to be filled up,

one of the ladies in our church, Martha Taylor, was very busy

making beautiful crib afghans to donate.

(Martha, on the right.)

They were so beautiful, it makes me wish I had a baby!

One of the points of the pro-choice group is that the pro-lifers are only interested in unborn children-

what is done to help unwanted children?

Their point is not true-there are many willing to help children.

There are 4 families in our church that are actively involved in foster care of unwanted and at risk children,

one of them eventually adopting 4 special needs children.

This past Sunday, in looking over my little Sunday School class of 6 Jr. kids,

I realized that ALL of them were adopted.

Children, wanted or not, are a great ministry work.

Although the stars do not speak,

even in being silent they cry out.

John Calvin

Every aborted child, though they cannot speak and are silent,

would cry out, “Let me live!”

A Sunday Prayer

Today’s Prayer

Today’s Prayer

What shall I pray to Thee, dear Lord, today?

What thing of good shall I from Thee implore?

What thing to brighten someone’s darkened way

With gleams of sunlight, never seen before?

*

Awaken, Lord, the heart of some sweet child,

Till it may make its early choice for Thee.

Oh, may it not by some loathsome sin beguiled

Cease innocence, but pure and lovely be.

*

Illumine, Lord, the heart of some fair youth;

By challenge set his noble heart afire,

And burn it up with holy zeal for truth,

And fervent love, and right, and Thy desire.

*

And, Lord, remember too the aging one-

Some weary pilgrim who has trod Thy way;

And may he see beyond the setting sun

The rosy tints of soon appearing day!

*

If you will grant this simple prayer to me,

By letting me the answer now begin,

I’ll do my best in effort, Lord, for Thee,

To see it done: and say, Amen!

Sunday Blessings

graphic from Sunflower Sallie

We are on a trip to visit family in California;

this is our yearly trip to see our parents.

So, for the next few weeks,

posts from me will be

short and sweet,

and maybe not at all!

Have a blessed Lord’s Day!

The Church Cross

News from the Cottage Hill Church-

The New Cross

We have a beautiful stone wall on the back wall of the platform.

It was the plan to eventually have a beautiful cross mounted on that wall.

The cross is now there!

This beautiful work was done by Paul McHugh of Salem, Ohio.. he had come to visit and was here to hear our Christmas cantata.

When he heard we were wanting a cross for the wall, he volunteered to make one!

He quickly took what measurements that he needed.

He made this cross from beautiful oak wood…and had it done in just a few weeks time.

He came from Ohio and installed the cross this last week.

It is very beautiful to see.

He did a beautiful job!

It is lighted from behind.  Here it is at night.

Thank you, Paul!

You did a beautiful job!

(Yes, I know that I used the word beautiful too much…

but what else can I say!?

It is beautiful! Or how about stunning!?)

Just a wooden cross, but such a stunning, and amazing

work done on that cross.

Galations 6:14

But God forbid that I should glory,

save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ,

whom the world is crucified unto me,

and I unto the world.

The 2016 Christmas Season

(I am sorry about the delay in the posting of the subject of these next few blog posts-my blog has been down for a few days and it took a some time to get things back up and running. Technical stuff that I don’t understand.   I will be having to find someone else to help me with the technicalities of my blog, as I am losing my tech person.  I appreciate all the wonderful help that James Moelk at Soap Effects has been to me.  But I am not sure where to go for that help.  Any suggestions?)

Snaps of our 2016 Christmas Season

The 2016 Christmas season is now in the past, and I am sure it was a busy one for you as it was for us.  But as we pass into the new year, I wanted to share some of the activities and photos of what Christmas was for us.

Traditionally, Christmas for us includes many programs, especially programs involving children.

One of the annual traditions is the Christmas program from the New Bethlehem Wesleyan Methodist School.  The school children work hard for many weeks to prepare and to share with parents and loved ones.  This program is scheduled as a district church event, so many of the local Wesleyan Methodist Churches attend.  These area churches are also the ones that support the school, in money and volunteers, without which the school could not operate.  This year the program was scheduled at our church, Cottage Hill.

(Forgive the poor photo quality-I forgot my camera and these were taken with my phone.)

The NBWMS Christmas Program

Many of the children are piano students, and there were a number of recital pieces, some painful, some delightful.

Sweet Kiera, playing her Christmas song.

An interesting 3 part piano piece by the Duvall sisters.

Four young students played a hand bell song for us-they did very good!

The Cottage Hill Church Children’s Program

Another annual event is the church children’s Christmas program.

We have such a great, fun group of children.  They also practiced hard for their pieces.  This was a simple program about the lights of Christmas.

We were treated to songs and memorized poems and scriptures.

Twins, Liberty and Charity, giving their welcome.

And little Lauren, saying thank you for coming to our program.  It is interesting that there is no problem getting the little ones to speak when they are allowed to use the microphones!  They love it.

A treat bag-chocolates from CharVal Chocolates in New Bethlehem-was shared with everyone who attended on this Sunday morning.

Aaron, our faithful sound man, keeps us on track.

Cottage Hill Christmas Cantata

An evening of music from our adult choir.

I thought that I would just leave this Facebook post as it is, names and all.

This is the only photo I have of the cantata.

For this song, the children joined us.

We have many wonderful singers in our church, and they love to sing.  The harmony is beautiful to hear. Many months are spent, willingly, in practice.  There is always the worry that with most of the adults in the church in the choir-who is left to hear us sing!?  But there are always many who come.

And the children are watching how it all done….

What are the special things that you do every Christmas season?

Matthew 1:21

And she shall bring forth a son;

and thou shalt call his name JESUS:

for he shall save his people from their sins.
